TERMS AND CONDITIONS

 

1. 

Promotion 

The Alternative Dairy Co is looking for Australia’s Alternative Barista! 

The Alternative Barista Smackdown National Tour will involve five knockout latte art heats on our national tour, with a grand final involving a BYOB (bring your own beans) assessment of the best coffee (yes, not just latte art!) to crown Australia’s Alternative Barista (Promotion). 

Entry into and participation in the The Alternative Barista Smackdown National Tour (Promotion) is deemed acceptance of these Terms and Conditions, including any information on how to enter and prizes. 

 2. 

Who can enter? 

Entry is open to Australian residents aged 18 years and older. You are not eligible to enter if you are a member of the immediate family of an employee of the Promoter, any event or prize sponsor, or their related corporations or agencies (Eligible Entrant). 

 

3. 

Events 

The Promotion will involve the following latte art heat events: 

  • Dates: Kick off at 5:00pm at the venues below unless otherwise notified of a different time or place: 
  • 13 October 2022 – NSW at Paradox Coffee Roasters; 
  • 24 November 2022 – WA at Darkstar Coffee Roasters; 
  • 20 February 2023 – SA at Kindred Coffee Roasters; 
  • 30 March 2023 – VIC at Victoria Arduino; and 
  • 4th May 2023 – QLD at Barista Technology Australia 

(each an Event) 

  • Format: 
  • 6 x knockout rounds; 
  • milk type and latte art pattern will be determined by a spinning wheel before each round/set; 
  • 1 handle, 1 jug of milk, 1 cup allocated, with Eligible Entrants able to bring their own jug but no etching tools are allowed, free pour designs; and 
  • all machinery, tools and raw materials will be provided. 

Prior to the commencement of each Event, Eligible Entrants will be given a detailed briefing on the machinery, tools and raw materials as well as a run down of the schedule, judges etc. 

 

4. 

Prizes 

The winners of each Event will win: 

  • 1st place: $1,000 Mastercard voucher plus return flights (where required) and two night’s accommodation in order to compete at the Grand Final, subject to these Terms and Conditions (valued at up to $600) 
  • 2nd place: $500 Mastercard voucher 
  • 3rd place: $250 Mastercard Voucher 

Additional gift packs or prizes may be awarded at the discretion of partnering sponsors or venues. 

 

5. 

Grand Final 

Following the heat Events, the Grand Final will be held on 15 June 2023 at Veneziano Coffee Roasters, Richmond, Victoria (unless otherwise notified of a different time or place) (Grand Final). 

Format: 

  • 3 x rounds (involving various coffee types e.g. piccolo and latte); 
  • flavour, latte art and workflow will be judged; 
  • Eligible Entrants will need to provide their own beans; and 
  • all machinery, tools and raw materials will be provided. 

Prior to the commencement of each Event, a detailed briefing on the machinery, tools and raw materials as well as a run down of the schedule, judges etc will be given. 

6. 

Grand Prizes 

The winners of the Grand Final will win: 

  • 1st place: $10,000 transferred to their nominated bank account 
  • 2nd place: $2,000 Mastercard Voucher 
  • 3rd place: $1,000 Mastercard Voucher 
  • 4th place runner up: $500 Mastercard Voucher 
  • 5th place runner up: $500 Mastercard Voucher 

Additional gift packs or prizes may be awarded at the discretion of partnering sponsors or venues. 

7. 

How do I enter? 

To enter the Promotion and be eligible to win, you must, during the Promotional Period: 

  • Step 1: Website: visit the Eventbrite page prior to your local Event; 
  • Step 2: Register your entry: provide your details to register and obtain your ticket to the Event (note that places are limited); and 
  • Step 3: Donate: pay your entry fee of $25 which will be donated by the Promotor to TipJar (paid directly to TipJar/Streetsmart Australia from the Eventbrite page subject to Eventbrite’s terms and conditions). 

8. 

When can I enter? 

The Promotion commences at 1:00PM 20 September 2022 and ends at 11:59PM on 27 April 2023 (the Promotional Period). Event registration will open approximately 4 weeks prior to each Event. 

9. 

Can I enter multiple times? 

Only one entry is permitted per person. You can only attend one heat Event and places are limited. 

10. 

Winner selection 

Winners will be selected during each Event by a judging panel comprised of industry professionals. This is a game of skill and the best entries demonstrating barista skill at each Event will win. 

11. 

Winner notification 

Winners will be notified in person on or before the completion of each Event. First place Event Winners must confirm their attendance at the Grand Final event within 48 hours of being notified. Failure to confirm attendance will result in that winner forfeiting their place to the next placed winner from that Event. 

12. 

Travel Terms 

In order to participate in the Grand Final, each first placed Event winner must: 

  • comply with any additional terms of any third party providers in order to attend the Grand Final (for example, location, venues etc) and availability, cancellation and/or delays are determined by those third party providers and not the Promoter; 
  • the winner is responsible for paying any excess costs associated with attendance, including transport to and from the airport, added spending money, meals, taxes, insurance etc; 
  • if the any Event is cancelled or postponed due to Government restrictions, the Promoter reserves the right to provide the winner with a voucher or alternative prize to the same value of the Prize; and 
  • if the winner does not take an element of the Prize for whatever reason, that element will be forfeited by the winner and cash will not be awarded instead of that element of the prize. 

The Promoter may provide an alternative prize of equal value in the event that all or part of a prize becomes unavailable for any reason beyond the Promoter’s control. 

13. 

Cost of Entry 

You are responsible for any costs associated with entering the Promotion including associated with accessing the internet and the donation to TipJar. The Promoter is not responsible for any problems with communications networks and use of mechanical or electronic tools that allow for repeated entries is not permitted. 

14. 

Receipt of Entries 

Neither the Promoter nor any other entity associated with this promotion will be responsible for any late, lost, misdirected, corrupted, incomplete or incorrectly submitted entries. Entries are deemed to be submitted at the time of receipt by the Promoter or its agents. 

15. 

Social media terms 

If you have any questions or comments about the Promotion, please direct them to the Promoter (contact details below), not any relevant social media platform. The Promotion is in no way sponsored by, endorsed or administered by any social media platform including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or TikTok and entrants release all relevant social media platform from any and all liability and agree to comply with any of their applicable terms of use.

16. 

Entries 

The Promoter reserves the right to disallow entries in its absolute discretion; verify the validity of entries and determine the eligibility of entrants (including an entrant’s identity) and to disqualify any entry or refuse to award a prize where dishonest or misleading details have been given, or an entrant has behaved in a dishonest manner, or otherwise than in accordance with these Terms and Conditions or the spirit of the Promotion. 

17. 

Promoter’s Rights 

The Promoter reserves the right to: 

  • disallow entries in its absolute discretion; 
  • verify the validity of entries and determine the eligibility of entrants (including an entrant’s identity) and to disqualify any entry or refuse to award a prize where dishonest or misleading details have been given by an entrant, or where an entrant has behaved in a fraudulent or dishonest manner, or otherwise than in accordance with these Terms and Conditions or the spirit of the Promotion; 
  • to terminate this Promotion or amend any aspect of this Promotion (including the prize) without notice at any time in its sole discretion in the event that this Promotion or any aspect of this Promotion cannot be reasonably conducted as planned; and 
  • enforce any of its rights at any stage and failure to do so does not constitute a waiver of those rights. 

18. 

Liability 

The Promoter shall not be liable for any loss or damage whatsoever which is or may be suffered (including but not limited to indirect or consequential loss) or for personal injury which is or may be suffered or sustained, in connection with participation in the promotion or accepting any prize, except for any liability which cannot be excluded by law. This includes but is not limited to any tax liability or tax implications. 

19. 

Privacy 

The information collected about entrants in the course of the Promotion has been requested to enable the Promoter to conduct the Promotion in accordance with these Terms and Conditions (including publicity), and for for the Promoter to send you additional informational or marketing material, in accordance with the Sanitarium Privacy Policy which can be found here: Privacy | Sanitarium Health Food Company

A request to access, update or correct any information should be directed to the Promoter at their address below. 

21. 

Promoter 

The promoter is AUSTRALIAN HEALTH & NUTRITION ASSOCIATION LIMITED ABN 63 096 452 872 trading as the Sanitarium Health Food Company, 1 Sanitarium Drive, Berkeley Vale NSW 2261. All decisions of the Promoter are final and no correspondence will be entered into.
