TERMS AND CONDITIONS

1. The Championship Entry into and participation in The Alternative Championship: Team Edition 2024-2025 event (the Championship/Event) is deemed acceptance of these Terms and Conditions, including any information on how to enter and prizes.
2. Who can enter? Entry is open to New Zealand residents aged 13 years and older. You are not eligible to enter if you are a member of the immediate family of an employee of the Organiser, any event or prize sponsor, or their related corporations or agencies.
3. Under 18? Entrants under 18 years old must have parental/guardian approval to enter the Championship. The parent/guardian of the entrant must read and consent to these Terms and Conditions. Parents/guardians may be required by the Organiser to enter into a further agreement as evidence of consent to the minor entering the Championship.
4. Event The Championship involves one team-based competitive event (with up to three people per team, each team classified as one “Entrant“) at 1/18 Westmoreland Street West, Grey Lynn, Auckland 1021 New Zealand with registration open approximately four weeks prior to the Event.

  • Specific times will be publicised on the Championship Eventbrite page approximately 3 weeks prior to the Event. Event will be points-based with rounds focused on coffee and other types of beverages, testing overall barista skills including presentation (latte art), sensory and service skills.

Prior to the commencement of the Event, Entrants will be given a detailed briefing on rounds, points, machinery, tools and raw materials as well as a rundown of the schedule, judges etc.

5. Prizes There are three prizes to be won. The winning teams of the Event will win:

  • 1st place: $1000 Mastercard voucher per participating team member
  • 2nd place: $500 Mastercard voucher per participating team member
  • 3rd place: $250 Mastercard voucher per participating team member

(each, a Prize)

Additional gift packs or prizes may be awarded at the discretion of partnering sponsors or venues.

6. How do I enter? To enter the Championship and be eligible to win, you must:

  • Step 1: Form your team: as each Event is team-based, please form a team of up to 3 people, select a team name and select a member of your team to complete the registration process (please ensure you have your team members permission first, including any parental/guardians consent);
  • Step 2: Register your entry: visit the Championship Eventbrite page prior to the Event and provide your team details to register and obtain your ticket to the Event (note that places are limited); and
  • Step 3: Donate: pay your entry fee of $30 per team which will be donated by the Organiser to Everybody Eats NZ.
7. Can I enter multiple times? Only one entry is permitted per team.
8. Winner selection Winners will be selected during the Event by a judging panel comprised of industry professionals. This is a game of skill and the best entries demonstrating barista skill at the Event will win.
9. Winner notification Winners will be notified in person at the completion of the Event.
10. Conduct Entrants must comply with all lawful and reasonable directions given by the Organiser (or its agents, contractors or affiliates) including in relation to the use of any equipment, and in relation to conduct during the Event. Individuals or Teams may be disqualified by the Organiser for displaying inappropriate behaviour in the lead up or during the course of the Event. The judges and Organiser may, at their sole discretion, award a Prize to another team in the Event of disqualifying conduct.
11. Cost of Entry Entrants are responsible for any costs associated with entering the Championship including associated with accessing the internet and the donation to Everybody Eats NZ. The Organiser is not responsible for any problems with communications networks and use of mechanical or electronic tools that allow for repeated entries is not permitted.
12. Recording at the Event and your consent Unless Entrants expressly inform the Organiser in writing otherwise (with the Organiser’s express acknowledgement of receipt), you hereby consent to:

  • the recording of you (or, where applicable, your child) by any means including but not limited to audio and visual recordings by cameras and photographers engaged by the Organiser at the Event and including those photographs and/or videos shared by each entrant in my participation in the Championship; and
  • the use of any such recordings by the Organiser or their commercial partners for promotional, marketing, broadcasting or reporting purposes in any media worldwide without any additional compensation to me or any person acting on my behalf.
13. Receipt of Entries Neither the Organiser nor any other entity associated with the Championship will be responsible for any late, lost, misdirected, corrupted, incomplete, or incorrectly submitted entries. Entries are deemed to be submitted at the time of receipt by the Organiser or its agents.
14. Social media terms If you have any questions or comments about the Championship, please direct them to the Organiser (contact details below), not any relevant social media platform. The Championship is in no way sponsored by, endorsed or administered by any social media platform including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or TikTok and entrants release all relevant social media platforms from any and all liability and agree to comply with any of their applicable terms of use.
15. Entries The Organiser reserves the right to disallow entries in its absolute discretion; verify the validity of entries and determine the eligibility of entrants (including an entrant’s identity) and to disqualify any entry or refuse to award a Prize where dishonest or misleading details have been given, or an entrant has behaved in a dishonest manner, or otherwise than in accordance with these Terms and Conditions or the spirit of the Championship.
16. Organiser’s Rights The Organiser reserves the right to:

  • to terminate this Championship or amend any aspect of this Championship (including the Prize) without notice at any time in its sole discretion in the event that this Championship or any aspect of this Championship cannot be reasonably conducted as planned; and
  • enforce any of its rights at any stage and failure to do so does not constitute a waiver of those rights.
17. Liability The Organiser shall not be liable for any loss or damage whatsoever which is or may be suffered (including but not limited to indirect or consequential loss) or for personal injury which is or may be suffered or sustained, in connection with participation in the Championship or accepting any Prize, except for any liability which cannot be excluded by law. This includes but is not limited to any tax liability or tax implications.
18. Privacy The information collected about entrants in the course of the Championship has been requested to enable the Organiser to conduct the Championship in accordance with these Terms and Conditions (including publicity), and for the Organiser to send you additional informational or marketing material, in accordance with the Sanitarium Privacy Policy which can be found here: Privacy | Sanitarium Health Food Company
19. Your personal information A request to access, update or correct any information should be directed to the Organiser at their address below.
20. Organiser The Organiser is NEW ZEALAND HEALTH ASSOCIATION LIMITED trading as Sanitarium Health Food Company. All decisions of the Organiser are final, and no correspondence will be entered into.
